Assessments

Protecting the local environment 

A suite of environmental assessments will be included as part of the planning application to Longford County Council.

​

These assessments will consider aspects related to:

​​​

  • Biodiversity and ecology

  • Landscape and visual

  • Land soil and geology

  • Water

  • Air quality

  • Noise and vibration

 

Baseline surveys and detailed modelling will be carried out where necessary.

Industry-leading environmental conservation
Protecting local wildlife

Extensive ecological surveys will inform buffer zones to protect natural habitats and include set-backs from rivers, streams and hedgerows.

 

The surveys will assess potential effects on local wildlife, including fish and birds, and ensure appropriate protective measures are in place.

Preserving biodiversity

There will be a focus on promoting biodiversity, including protecting and enhancing watercourses, soils and geology.

 

A Biodiversity Enhancement Management Plan will be submitted with the solar development application.

Landscape and Visual

A Landscape and Visual Impact Assessment, a Glint and Glare Assessment, a Traffic and Transport Assessment, and a Landscape Management Plan will also be submitted as part of the application process.

 

Traffic mitigation measures will ensure minimal disruption with a Traffic Management Plan finalised prior to any construction. Access to local houses, farms and businesses will be maintained during the build.

Preserving local heritage

With a focus on preserving local heritage, an Archaeology and Cultural Heritage assessment will survey historical sites of interest.​​

​

This will include a detailed study of the local archaeological and historical background of the site and the surrounding area, including in-depth research and a site visit by specialist consultants. 


Any archaeological sites of interest will have surrounding buffers based on the National Monuments Service Zones of Notification.​

​

Archaeological resources will be sourced from the following: 

  • Aerial photographs

  • Cartographic and written sources relating to the study area

  • Record of Monuments and Places for County Longford

  • Sites and Monuments Record for County Longford

  • National Monuments in State Care Database

  • Topographical files of the National Museum of Ireland

  • Longford County Development Plan 2021–2027

A public consultation was held on Wednesday 22nd of July at St. Mary’s Town Hall in Lanesborough. Co Longford, 3:30 - 6:30pm.​
